Sprouting Out

Here are some tips for sprouting, using all methods:

For success with summer sprouting in a jar :
*  Don't over crowd (split mixture into 2 jars if you find it filling up)
For the smaller seeds (Alfalfa, Red clover, Broccoli, Radish) place no more than 2 level tablespoons into your jar & soak for 2 hrs.
*  Rinse 3 to 4 times a day - but if you happen to be out all day and it's particularly hot in your house, put the jar into the fridge.
*  With Alfalfa or Red Clover & mixes with Alfalfa / Clover, as they start to sprout, fill the jar with water & use a fork to gently lift the sprouts.  This will help unclump them, and also bring the husks to the top of the jar (see photos below).  Simply hold fork over the top, and pour the water out, with the husks going too.  Repeat a few times if you want to get rid of more husks.
